Lane Lambert was a member of the Milwaukee Admirals coaching staff for five seasons. He was an assistant coach during the 2006-07 season before taking over the head coaching duties for the following four seasons, 2007-11. Lambert’s determination for success and intense drive were second-to-none and his team’s style of play always reflected his competitive spirit. He held a record of 178-103-15-24 during his tenure, and helped the Admirals to become the only team in AHL history to achieve 40 wins and 90 points in eight consecutive seasons. His 178 wins as a head coach ranks him third all-time in team history behind Phil Wittliff (341) and Claude Noel (183). The team success for Lambert was a result of his great ability to instruct and develop young players. A total upwards of 30 players reached the NHL level under his tutelage. Players such as two-time Vezina trophy finalist Pekka Rinne, Patric Hornqvist, Kevin Klein, and former Admirals captain Rich Peverley have found success in the NHL after their time with Milwaukee. Lambert has made a lasting impression on many players, possibly none more than on Rinne. "He is one of the coaches who has had the most influence on me. He's the nicest guy you'll ever meet and we are lucky to have him here in Nashville," Rinne said about Lambert. "He is a great coach and hopefully one day he will be a head coach in the NHL." Before his coaching career, Lambert enjoyed a lengthy professional hockey career. The native of Saskatchewan played professionally from 1983-2001 and was a second round selection (25th Overall) of the Detroit Red Wings in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. Over the course of his career he would play for the Red Wings, New York Rangers, and the Quebec Nordiques. His best NHL season came during the 1987-88 season when he posted 40 points (13 goals and 27 assists) for the Nordiques. He would go on to finish his playing career in the International Hockey League with the Houston Aeros. After his time with the Admirals, Lane Lambert was promoted to the role of assistant coach with the Admirals parent club the Nashville Predators. He stills operates in that role with the Predators, and continues to oversee the likes of players he coached while in Milwaukee. |
