Setting the Stage in Texas

The Admirals recorded a very big win Saturday night to even the first round series with Texas at a game apiece. [more]
In 2003 Mike McNeill joined an elite club to have their Admirals number retired, a club so exclusive that only two others at that point had the honor bestowed upon them. Most would expect that if a forward had their number retired they would have eye-popping stats, but McNeil did it on the defensive end. The Winona, MN native is hands down the best defensive forward to don an Admirals jersey. It was no coincidence that McNeil was on the ice anytime there was an important defensive zone face-off. McNeill joined the Admirals in 1992, playing in 75 regular season games and all six playoff games. Along with his defensive ability, McNeill added 17 goals and 17 assists making a notable contribution as a rookie. He finished his rookie year in the IHL with a +14 on-ice rating. In his second season with the Ads in 1993-94, McNeill had his best offensive year, posting 46 points. He totaled his second most goals (21) and assists (25) in a single season as an Admiral. He also improved upon his other rookie stats by playing in 75 games and a +15 rating. McNeill continued to show great durability as he played in 95 games during the 1994-95 season, 80 regular season and 15 post-season games. He was a key veteran presence on the ice as the Admirals made a run to the IHL Conference Finals. McNeill also notched a career high as an Admiral lighting the lamp 23 times in the regular season. The 1995-96 season was the toughest of McNeill’s career in Milwaukee as injuries limited him to 64 games and 17 points. McNeill rebounded during the 1996-97 season tallying his second best points total as an Admiral with 44 points. He also reached a career high in assists with 26. McNeill played his final season in Milwaukee in 1997-98, playing in his most games in a single season with 81. His final season pushed him to 452 games played as an Admiral which ranks him third all-time in team history. After playing two seasons with the Revier Lions of the DEL in Germany, McNeill retired from professional hockey. Since his playing days McNeill went on to be an assistant coach at Notre Dame from 2006-2010 and helped lead the Fighting Irish to be runners-up in the NCAA Division 1 Hockey Championship in 2008. |
