Thanksgiving Leftovers

December 14

I’ve been trying to figure out a topic to write on for a while. I haven’t been able to come up with anything, so here’s a hodgepodge of stuff. Enjoy it like Thanksgiving leftovers.

Admirals defenseman Robert Dietrich met with German Olympic coach Uwe Krupp when the team was in Houston before Thanksgiving. Dietrich is a candidate to make the team along with his longtime friend and 2006 Olympian, Alex Sulzer.

Triston Grant’s 2-goal game vs. Manitoba was his first since 3/19/08 when he scored twice for Philadelphia at Hartford. Hugh Jessiman, who scored Saturday, had an assist in the game I noted for the Wolf Pack.

Former Milwaukee defensemen Kimmo Timonen and Ryan Parent should be in the lineup when the Flyers play at Fenway Park against the Boston Bruins in the NHL Winter Classic New Year’s Day.

Small world…the Montreal Canadiens selected former Admirals stars Dale Yakiwchuk and Doug Robb in the 1978 draft. The Canadiens also selected: Dan Geoffrion (son of Bernie and father of University of Wisconsin forward and Nashville draft choice Blake) and Houston Aeros coach Kevin Constantine.

The last two first-round picks for the Quebec Nordiques, both in 1994, were current Nashville enforcer Wade Belak and former Admirals defenseman and current Nashville Chief Amateur Scout, Jeff Kealty. Chris Drury was selected by the Nordiques in the third round that year, Milan Hejduk in the fourth and Bruins goalie Tim Thomas in the ninth.

Until next time…Go Admirals!!!
