Mt. Puckmore

August 17

I was perusing Twitter for some news items when I came across a column from George Malik on Yahoo Sports Puck Daddy. It discussed which players would be on the Detroit Red Wings “Mt. Puckmore”. Many other teams were highlighted, too.

It got me to thinking about the team(s) we follow closest: the Admirals and the Nashville Predators. We’ll open it up to all involved with the teams, not just players.

For the Admirals, there’s no doubt Phil Wittliff is on the list. Who would the others be? There’s no shortage of candidates.

Here’s a stab at it: Wittliff, Tony Hrkac, Danny Lecours & Fred Berry. What about some of the more current players?

That’s probably a safe list.

Which AHL players would you put on the list? Candidates would include Nolan Yonkman, Cal O’Reilly, Darren Haydar and Pekka Rinne. Would you put Claude Noel on the Mt.? How about Rich Peverley?

Nashville, I think would be a tough one. You’d almost have to put David Poile and Barry Trotz up there. Then who? I’d go with Steve Sullivan because his acquisition signaled the beginning of the Predators being a playoff-caliber club. Then, maybe, Tomas Vokoun, Shea Weber, Paul Kariya, David Legwand…the list has many possibilities.

What do you think?

Moving on…

A good friend of mine and a very talented writer, Todd Milewski, gets to follow the Stanley Cup today with Adam Burish in Madison. Today is more of a personal day for Burish and the Cup with close friends and family. Todd grew up in Milwaukee and played street hockey with Sabres forward Drew Stafford, the son of former Admirals standout Gord Stafford.

I leave you with the interesting story of the WHA.
