Milwaukee Admirals

Day Two in the Books

Posted By: Aaron Sims

September 29

The Admirals second practice occurred earlier today. The team had 26 players on the ice: 15 forwards, nine defensemen and two goalies.

The line combinations today (Left to Right):

Chad Painchaud – Michael Bartlett – Chris Mueller
Gabriel Bourque – Blake Geoffrion – Ryan Flynn
Kelsey Wilson – Mark Van Guilder – Mark Santorelli
Brett Robinson – Dylan Hunter – Andreas Thuresson
Kevin DeVergilio – Connor Shields – Ryan Thang

The nine defensemen (Jon Blum, Scott Ford, Julien Brouillette, R.J. Anderson, Wes Cunningham, Scott Lehman, Grant Lewis, Brett Palin & Jean-Claude Sawyer) were mixed and matched due to the odd number.

Roman Josi worked out with strength and conditiong coach Jason Nordby. Nick Spaling, Matt Halischuk, Linus Klasen and Teemu Laakso did not practice as they arrived late last night after being sent down by Nashville. Klasen hasn’t been cleared to practice after suffering an injury in a rookie game for Nashville.

Moving on…

Most, if not all the Admirals will be wearing extra protection over the boot of the skate. When you come to a game, you’ll notice a clear protective piece that wraps over the laces and down to the arch on either side of the foot. The reason: Nashville defenseman Shea Weber. The Predators brass doesn’t want any more broken feet because a player got in the way of a Weber shot. Admirals forward Blake Geoffrion says he hardly notices it, except when he turns sharply. He does say he’s getting used to it. All of the players I spoke with say it’s a non-issue.

Helping instruct at training camp is former NHL goalie Scott Fankhouser. Fankhouser is the new assistant coach for ECHL Cincinnati. You may recall Fankhouser dressed as a backup goalie for the Admirals in Peoria a couple seasons ago. The next night, he dressed as Peoria’s backup in Milwaukee.

I leave you with former Milwaukee Falcons forward John McLellan. McLellan eventually became the head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
