Milwaukee is 5-1-0-0 under head coach Ian Herbers. The team has scored 27 goals and allowed 17 in those six games. In the past 15 years, Milwaukee has had seven head coaches, including Herbers. Based on points in the first six games of their respective tenures, the coaches rank like this:
Kirk Muller (2011-12) 11 points (5-0-0-1 record) 17 goals for 9 goals against
Ian Herbers (2011-12) 10 points (5-1-0-0) 27 goals for 17 goals against
Al Sims (1997-98) 10 points (5-1-0-0) 21 goals for 12 goals against
Peter Horachek (2002-03) 10 points (4-0-2-0) 22 goals for 14 goals against
Lane Lambert (2007-08) 9 points (4-1-1-0) 26 goals for 14 goals against
Claude Noel (2003-04) 6 points (2-1-2-1) 16 goals for 18 goals against
Dave Allison (2000-01) 4 points (2-4-0-0) 17 goals for 23 goals against
As you can see, under Herbers, the Admirals are off to the best offensive start for a new coach in the last 15 years.
Moving on…
It was neat to watch the players on the ice at the morning skate today. Blake Geoffrion and Jon Blum were back with the team. After the Admirals finished the organized part of practice, a few players went to the Toronto bench to visit with former teammate Kelsey Wilson.
Rob Slaney, a former Marlies forward, had a chance to visit with some of his former teammates, too, while Mark Van Guilder and Ryan Thang chatted with Toronto Maple Leafs VP of Hockey Operations Dave Poulin. Poulin coached Van Guilder at Notre Dame and recruited Thang to the school.
