Some end of the season notes about your 2012-2013 Milwaukee Admirals:
The Admirals were the hottest team down the stretch in the entire Western Conference. Of the top nine teams, including Rockford (which missed the playoffs), the winning percentages are:
1. Milwaukee (8th seed): 15-4-1-0 record, .775 winning percentage
2. Toronto (2nd seed): 13-3-1-3, .750
3. Oklahoma City (5th seed) : 13-4-0-3, .725
4. Rockford (missed playoffs): 14-5-1-0, .725
5. Houston (6th seed): 12-5-1-2, .675
6. Rochester (7th seed): 13-7-0-0, .650
7. Texas (1st seed): 10-7-1-2, .575
8. Grand Rapids (3rd seed): 9-7-2-2, .550
9. Charlotte (4th seed): 9-8-2-1, .525
Of the eight teams in the Western Conference playoffs, only Milwaukee, Rochester and Grand Rapids won at least 20 games at home AND on the road.
Over the last 20 games, the Admirals outscored the opposition 57-35, an average score of 2.85-1.75.
Milwaukee’s power play was excellent, clicking 18 of 74 times (24.3%).
The team’s penalty kill was also tremendous, killing 72 of 79 (91.1%).
Milwaukee went 22-10-1-1 when scoring a power play goal this season, a .676 winning percentage.
The Admirals record against the Midwest Division was 28-13-1-2, a .670 winning percentage.
Taylor Beck led the Admirals with 41 points this season. The 41 points is the lowest point total to lead the team since the Admirals and Nashville formed their partnership in 1998. Petr Sachl had 43 to lead the 2001-02 Ads in their first AHL season.
Magnus Hellberg recorded six shutouts, the second most in a season since Milwaukee joined the AHL in 2001-02. Brian Finley recorded seven in 2004-05.
Hellberg’s six shutouts came over a span of 26 appearances, that’s a shutout every 4.3 appearances.
Joonas Jarvinen played the most games this season, 75. This was the first season an Admiral didn’t appear in every AHL game since Bracken Kearns led the team by playing in 79 of 80 games in 2006-07.
Austin Watson (20 goals) was the first rookie to lead the Admirals in goals since Antti Pihlstrom (27 goals) in 2007-08. Pihlstrom had a couple of pro seasons under his belt in Europe, so Watson is the first with no full pro season to lead the team in that category since Darren Haydar in 2002-03 (29 goals).
Of the 16 playoff teams, the eight from the Western Conference all ranked among the league’s 15 least penalized teams:
• Charlotte (1st)
• Texas (2nd)
• Houston (3rd)
• Milwaukee (4th)
• Manchester (6th)
• Hershey (7th)
• Oklahoma City (10th)
• Rochester (11th)
• Toronto (14th)
• Grand Rapids (15th)
• Providence (17th)
• Springfield (18th)
• Binghamton (21st)
• Portland (26th)
• Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (27th)
• Syracuse (28th)
Texas beat Milwaukee in their only two matchups this season, 3-1 at Texas Oct. 24 (Milwaukee’s fifth game of the season) and 2-1 in overtime at Milwaukee Dec. 5 (Milwaukee’s 20th game of the season).
Here’s to a great series. And, here’s remembering how the last playoff series between these teams ended (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyZwGX7CtuM).
