Being that I spent some time playing over in Europe, some of the fans were interested in knowing if I spoke any foreign languages. No, I don’t, I did take four years of French back in Alberta, I know a few words and phrases, but I can’t say that I know a second language fluently.
Once we got back from Peoria Friday night I spent my weekend doing some preparation for the workout Saturday. I watched some game tape and did some scouting to see what we need to improve on and what we did well. I worked on getting us ready for Wednesday’s game against Peoria and also did some pre-scouting to get ready for our games against Abbotsford on Friday and Saturday. Once that was all done I had some chores to take care of around the house and spent some time with my family.
I’ve been pretty busy, but I do try to watch a little NHL Hockey when I can. I try to see what some of the NHL teams are doing on power plays and penalty kills. I like to watch Nashville to see how the guys who were here in Milwaukee last year are doing. I always enjoy watching the Redwings, they are a very highly skilled team so they’re fun to watch they’re always doing something new. Right now, with the playoffs going I’ve been watching some baseball in my free time. I spent quite a bit of time in Detroit, so I’m a Tigers fan. I’ll cheer for the Lions too, even though I know they’re struggling.
Growing up as a kid I followed Montreal. This was before the Oilers came to Edmonton. At the time, the Canadiens were pretty good so I mostly followed Montreal as a youngster. It was the 70’s, so they were winning all the cups back then. They had Larry Robinson and Guy Lafluer and a solid crew there. They probably won five Stanley Cups during that time period. One of my brothers was a Toronto fan the other was a Buffalo fan so naturally we had a few arguments about whose team was best. We had a table hockey game that had one side painted up like the Canadiens and the other like the Maple Leafs. We were playing that all the time and every Christmas we would have a big tournament. It was a lot of fun.
