It has been a bit since I lasted posted a blog here. Sorry about that. One of my New Year’s resolutions will be to be more punctual with updates.
We’ve got a lot going on over the next couple of weeks. We’ll play at Chicago on Tuesday night and then the team will be off for the Christmas break through Saturday. It’s a well-deserved break as the guys have worked hard to put us in a good position going into the heart of the schedule. We’ve already played half of our road schedule but just a quarter of the home schedule so if we can take care of business on our home rink in front of our fans we should be able to make a good run at the Calder Cup playoffs again this year. We are currently on pace to earn 98 points this season which would extend our league record to eight straight seasons with 90-or-more points. Let’s hope we can do it!
Speaking of the home rink, we are very pleased with our pre-Christmas attendance numbers. We’re ahead of last year’s pace and we are excited to get to the post-Christmas promotional schedule. By the way, how about that wedding on the ice on December 17? That was fun. I was astounded when everyone stood up when the bride skated onto the ice. Then, during the ceremony, you could hear a pin drop as the happy couple exchanged their vows.
I want you to know how important you are to the success of our team on the ice. We have a chance to have a great home ice advantage and it’s created by your participation. The energy you bring to the game – how loud you cheer, clap, scream – gives our guys an adrenalin rush that can put us over the top. Fans should never underestimate what they bring to the game. We work hard to get you involved through our game production but you should know that when our guys are a little tired or have just finished a penalty kill that your support lifts them up. We believe that our fans are some of the most knowledgeable in the hockey world. You understand the game. We thank you for your support and we want you to know that we need you!
If you have some time on December 27, 28 and 29, come and check out the Milwaukee Admirals High School Hockey Tournament presented by Bradley Corporation. We have eight teams who will be playing for the Admirals Cup. The games are free to attend and begin on December 27 at Wilson Park. There are also games on December 28 and 29 at both Wilson Park and the Bradley Center. The schedule for the tournament is here at milwaukeeadmirals.com. It’s a fun event and maybe you’ll even see some future Admirals! The winner of the last two State Hockey tournaments have also won this tournament.
Lastly, I want to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and Boxing Day. Please be safe during your travels and I look forward to seeing you at the Bradley Center next week for Admirals hockey on the 28th vs Rockford and the 29th vs Houston.
Go Admirals!
