How about that snow? That was unbelievable. I have lived here all of my life and I don’t remember anything like that. It was great in my neighborhood to see people helping each other through a really tough day. Whether it was shoveling, snow blowing, plowing or checking on the elderly in our area, we all came together to make it bearable and even have a few laughs. I predict there will be some sore muscles today. At my house the drifts were so big that I couldn’t get out of the house early in the morning to start the clean-up process. Finally I was able to carefully get the door open far enough to slither my way out the door. I think if I lost about 40 pounds I might have had an easier time. Maybe this snowstorm was the start of my new health initiative??
I was pleased to represent the Admirals at the All-Star Game in Hershey. We were only able to stay for the Skills Competition on Sunday night as we monitored the weather and made the call to get out of town a day early. It was a good decision! I was very proud of our athletes, Mark Dekanich and Linus Klasen. They represented Milwaukee very well. Linus’ move in the Skills competition during the shootout competition was the highlight of the entire All-Star experience in my opinion. His goal is being called the “Bubble Hockey Goal” as it looked like a move you’d make on the bubble hockey table.
I had some productive conversations with some teams in the Eastern Conference about potentially getting them on our schedule for next year. Hopefully those conversations will prove fruitful and we will be able to have more of a diverse schedule for 2011-12.
We have a big night of entertainment planned for Friday night. We have the annual visit of the University of Wisconsin Marching Band thanks to Reinhart Partners. It is one of my favorite nights of the entire season. They perform before, during and after the game with a special Fourth Period performance from the ice. It’s a great party! Also, we’ll be giving away 5,000 Blake Geoffrion bobbleheads thanks to Lee Jeans and we’re also wearing special red and white jerseys which will be auctioned off during the game to benefit the Admirals Power Play Foundation.
Speaking of Blake, he earned the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week award Wednesday and he is celebrating his birthday today. That’s quite a week!
So get rid of that cabin fever caused by the snowstorm and get down the BC and have some fun with us on Friday night!
Go Admirals!
