We’re less than a month until the end of the regular season. It feels like we just got started doesn’t it? We need a strong finish which starts this week with our final journey to Texas and a huge game tonight with Houston. While we have a number of games in hand over the Aeros, a win tonight would give us a three point lead. Then, it’s back to back games against San Antonio before an all-day travel day to get back to Milwaukee for a big Saturday night contest against Lake Erie. Just a reminder that after the game Saturday night, the incomparable Huey Lewis and the News will play a post-game show, We’re excited to have them with us.
We finish the season with somewhat of an East Coast schedule as we will sleep in our own beds for 21 of the last 22 days of the season, the only exception being a night in Peoria in April. The guys should be well rested in preparation for hopefully a long Calder Cup playoff run. We just need to take care of business on our own ice in front of our great fans and good things will happen I predict.
I was watching the Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks last night on Versus and the broadcast team spent much of the third period talking about the Nashville Predators. They highlighted the talents of Jon Blum and Ryan Ellis, who is having a phenomenal Junior season. I am hopeful that he can be a part of our team soon as it seems like he’d a be a great addition to the Admirals squad, especially come playoff time. They also talked about what a great job Pekka Rinne is doing and the success that David Poile, Nashville’s GM, has had in building successful teams. Now, it would be nice if they’d actually consider putting a Nashville game on national television once in a while. You’d think their success in the past would make them a good fit even if the Nashville TV market isn’t the most desirable for ratings.
Nashville is in a tough fight for a playoff spot in the Western Conference. Much like the Admirals however, they have a favorable schedule with a ton of home games down the stretch. I wish them the best and I hope that Blum, Blake Geoffrion and Matt Halischuk, who have spent the most time here. can be impact players for them and put them over the top. It’s really rewarding to see the guys here make meaningful contributions at the next level.
Let’s cheer for a big week ahead!
