It’s time for the Calder Cup Finals and the Admirals are still alive! It might be the “other” Admirals but…
Congratulations to the Toronto Marlies and Norfolk Admirals on advancing to the Finals which start on Friday night. Neither team has ever won the Calder Cup which makes it a really unique series. Norfolk is affiliated with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto is affiliated the Maple Leafs. Both teams have former Admirals on their regular season rosters with Brandon Segal and Cory Conacher playing for Norfolk and Kelsey Wilson played for the Marlies this season. Hopefully there will be great crowds in Norfolk and Toronto during this series. These two teams have been excellent all season. Norfolk won a remarkable 29 straight games during the regular season and into the playoffs.
Who do I think is going to win you ask (humor me)? I like Norfolk with the home ice advantage winning in six games. Who do you like? Be sure to comment below.
We have the Stanley Cup Finals cranking up this week as well with the Los Angeles Kings taking on the New Jersey Devils. It’s an eight seed from the West taking on a six seed from the East. Talk about parity! This has been a really good playoff season in the NHL which started off in a truly crazy fashion with all of the suspensions and hostilities of the first round but has morphed into a fantastic exhibition of hockey. I look forward to watching these games and seeing who comes out with the Stanley Cup.
While I should be biased toward New Jersey because their coach, Peter Deboer, is a former Admirals player, I am leaning toward Los Angeles in what I think will be a seven-game series. I like their depth and the vibe they have going on right now. It should be exciting that’s for sure! Again, let me know who you think is going to win.
Just a reminder that the Admirals annual Garage Sale will be held on June 20 and 21 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center (have to get used to that). Hope to see you there!
Go Admirals (Milwaukee’s)!
