The Milwaukee Admirals erupted for five goals in the second period en route to a 7-3 win over the Iowa Stars Sunday in Des Moines, IA.

The Admirals got on the board first with a power play goal. Janne Niskala tried to send a pass to Rich Peverley on the left post. The pass was deflected, yet still made it to Peverley who fired the puck over the right shoulder of goalie David McKee for his first of the season. Niskala and Cal O’Reilly recorded assists on the goal scored at 5:01 of the first.

Iowa tied the game at 10:36 of the first when James Neal hustled to beat an icing call against the Stars. He tried to wrap around left of Milwaukee goalie Pekka Rinne, but the puck went through the crease to the right of Rinne where Vojtech Polak slapped it in.

Antti Pihlstrom gave the Admirals the lead at 3:25 of the second period when he finished a pretty passing play with John Vigilante. Pihlstrom carried the puck to the top of the right circle in the Iowa zone, dropped the puck for Vigilante and went to the net. Vigilante passed the puck to Pihlstrom who fired into an empty net for his third goal of the year. Vigilante and Cody Franson notched assists.

Alex Sulzer scored a power play goal with a slapshot from the right point at 10:35 to give Milwaukee a 3-1 lead. Peverley and Matt Ellison picked up the assists.

Milwaukee’s Josh Langfeld made it 4-1 after completing another pretty passing play with O’Reilly and Jason Guerriero. Langfeld snapped the Guerriero pass into the net for his second of the season.

Hard work from Vigilante led to the Admirals fifth goal of the night. He hustled behind the Iowa net and sent the puck into the crease where Kelsey Wilson banged it in for his first goal of the season at 14:33.

The Admirals final goal of the period was scored at 17:13 when Nolan Yonkman held the puck at the right point. His pass went to Mike Santorelli who moved the puck to Langfeld. Langfeld’s shot on net went off the right side of McKee’s body and slid in giving Langfeld his second goal of the game and third of the season.

Toby Petersen scored with 16 seconds left in the second on a delayed penalty against Milwaukee to make it 6-2.

Milwaukee scored at 3:57 of the third to take a 7-2 lead. Pihlstrom fired a pass from the right circle to the left for Peverley. Peverley found Matt Ellison in the crease for an easy tap-in. It was Ellison’s second of the year.

Iowa’s Tommy Wandell completed the scoring with a goal at 7:48 of the third.

Peverley has recorded at least one point in each of Milwaukee’s five games this season. Pihlstrom has scored a goal in three straight for the Admirals. Sulzer has goals in the last two contests.

The Admirals return to the Bradley Center Wednesday to face the Quad City Flames at 7 p.m.
