Daigneault Stands Out in Admirals Win
Oct 26, 2007
Maxime Daigneault stopped 27 shots in his first Milwaukee appearance and Cal O’Reilly broke a scoreless tie with a shorthanded goal in the third as the Admirals won at Quad City Friday night, 2-0.
O’Reilly stripped Flames defenseman Tim Hambly of a bouncing puck at the Admirals blue line and sped in on goalie Curtis McElhinney. A backhand move put the puck in the net and gave the Admirals all the team would need on this night.
Milwaukee added an insurance goal when Mike Santorelli made a nice stick-handling play to the front of the Flames net. His shot was stopped, but he slapped in the rebound for his third of the year. Ryan Maki and Kelsey Wilson recorded assists.
Daigneault’s biggest save came while Quad City was trying to convert a 5-on-3 power play in the second period. A pass went from Daigneault’s right to his left. Daigneault slid and stretched the left leg to kick what looked like an easy goal away.
The Admirals were outshot 15-3 in the second period, but outshot the Flames 12-4 in the third and finished with a 28-27 advantage.
The Admirals host the Chicago Wolves for the first time of the season Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
