Admirals Streak Ends
Dec 1, 2007
The Milwaukee Admirals modest two-game winning streak was ended at Quad City Friday as the Flames won in a shootout, 3-2.
The Admirals settle for a three game unbeaten streak as the team heads into its next game Sunday.
Both teams scored during the first two rounds of the shootout. Milwaukee took the lead 3-2 after three rounds when Matt Ellison scored. However, Quad City’s next two shooters scored while Milwaukee’s didn’t. The Flames Tomi Maki gets credit for the game-winning goal.
The Flames got on the board first when Warren Peters deflected Carsen Germyn’s shot from the left point over Pekka Rinne’s right shoulder. The power play goal came at 15:31 of the first period.
Quad City took a 2-0 lead on a Brandon Prust goal at 8:32 of the second.
The Admirals got on the board with a power play goal from Janne Niskala at 11:40 of the second. Milwaukee was unable to convert with 56 seconds of 5-on-3 power play time, but with 20 seconds left in a power play, Jason Guerriero was involved in a scramble. Guerriero tapped the puck along the wall to Alex Sulzer at the left point. Sulzer fired a quick pass to Niskala who let a one-timer go from the top of the right circle for his sixth goal of the year and fourth on the power play. Of Niskala’s goals, five have come against the Flames.
Milwaukee tied the game when Rich Peverley flipped the puck high in the air to the middle of the ice. Dave Scatchard caught the pass in mid-air on his stick and had a breakaway. Scatchard’s shot was stopped, but John Vigilante buried the rebound for his fifth goal of the season.
The Admirals return home to the Bradley Center Sunday to face Grand Rapids at 4 p.m.
