Same Score, Different Result for Admirals
Dec 14, 2007
The first period seemed to start out as a repeat of Tuesday’s game, with the Stars striking first at the 8:49 mark. After a scramble in front of the Milwaukee net, Iowa winger B.J. Crombeen snuck the puck behind Pekka Rinne and over the goal line.
Only a few minutes later at 13:28, the Admirals retaliated with a power play goal from defenseman Cody Franson. Center Mike Santorelli fired a pass on the tape of Franson who deeked around Iowa goaltender Tobias Stephan and easily flicked the puck into the net.
With Tuesday’s loss still fresh in their minds, the Admirals continued down their warpath with three minutes to go in the period. Jason Guerriero found Rich Peverley in front of the right goalpost who slapped the puck in at the 17:05 mark to give the Admirals a lead they would not relinquish. Although the score remained unchanged throughout the second period, both teams continued to battle for a win that would shift the rankings of the West Division. The Stars saw three players head to the box, but were successful in killing off all of the Admirals power plays and the score remained 2-1 after 40 minutes of play.
The third period began with the Stars on the power play, but the Admirals penalty killing unit proved up to the task. After only two minutes, Peverley notched his second goal of the night and sixth of the season. Assisted by Matt Ellison and Mark Matheson, Peverley fired a wrister that beat Stephan top shelf.
Only four minutes later, newcomer James Sixsmith put the Ads ahead 4-1 when he beat Stephan, like Peverley, top shelf. Despite three penalties later in the period, including a 5-on-3 advantage for the Stars, the Admirals kept Iowa off the board to secure the win.
The third period goal from Sixsmith was his first as an Admiral. Cal O’Reilly’s assist on the goal made tonight the fourth consecutive game that the center has scored a point. With the points gained from the win, the Admirals moved back into fourth place of the West Division tied with the Quad City Flames.
The Admirals are away tomorrow night facing the Grand Rapids Griffins. They will return to the Bradley Center next Tuesday night to conclude their two-game series with the Grifs.
