Milwaukee Halts Streak at Four
Dec 31, 2007
Rockford, IL—The line of Rich Peverley, John Vigilante, and Matt Ellison combined for three goals and eight assists as the Admirals snapped a four-game losing streak with a 5-3 win over the Rockford IceHogs on New Year’s Eve.
That trio got things started early when Ellison scored his seventh goal of the season just 26 seconds into the game to stake the Ads to a 1-0 lead. After Colin Fraser tied the game for Rockford, it was Vigilante turn as he put Milwaukee back on top at the 5:55 mark with assists going to Peverley and Ellison.
However, the most important part of the game didn’t come from the offense, but from the Admirals’ penalty killing until that was able to vanquish 1:47 of an IceHogs 5-on-3 power play at the end of the first period and maintain the 2-1 lead.
Goals by Mike Santorelli and Alexander Sulzer 43 seconds apart in the second period gave the Admirals a 4-1 advantage after 40 minutes of play.
Rockford, who came into the game with a 16-game point streak, scored twice in the third to pull within a goal, but Vigilante iced the game for Milwaukee with an empty netter with 1:11 left to play in the game.
The Admirals will take New Year’s Day off before heading to Chicago for a 7:00 pm game against the Wolves on Wednesday night.
