Milwaukee Starts Winning Streak
Dec 15, 2007
The Milwaukee Admirals have a two game winning streak after knocking off the Grand Rapids Griffins 2-1 Saturday night at Van Andel Arena.
The Admirals got on the board first with a power play goal at 1:55. Griffins’ defenseman Jon Insana went to the penalty box at 1:41 for tripping. Milwaukee, trying to hold the zone off the faceoff, had Alex Sulzer slide in from the left point. He passed the puck to the left point, now being manned by Cal O’Reilly. O’Reilly sent a pass to the top of the right circle where Cody Franson fired a low wrist shot to beat Grand Rapids goalie Adam Berkhoel. It was Franson’s third goal of the season, second in as many nights and second on the power play. O’Reilly and Sulzer notched the assists.
Grand Rapids tied the game with a power play goal of its own at 3:50 of the third period. Jakub Kindl’s shot from the right point was deflected past Milwaukee goalie Pekka Rinne by Brett Engelhardt.
The tie didn’t last long. Milwaukee took the lead as the Admirals caught Grand Rapids on a line change just 90 seconds later. Rich Peverley passed the puck to Janne Niskala. Niskala went around the Griffins net and scored a wraparound goal. It was his eighth goal of the season. Peverley notched the only assist.
Rinne stopped 29 shots in the game, 14 in the third period.
