Admirals Dethroned by Monarchs
Jan 18, 2008
Milwaukee controlled the play in the Monarchs’ end for the majority of the first period, but Monarch netminder Daniel Taylor kept the Admirals off of the scoreboard stopping seven saves. The Admirals defense came out rolling as Manchester did not record their first shot on net until 1:35 remaining in the opening frame. It wasn’t until the 15:49 mark of the second that the tie was broken. Monarch defenseman Jon Klemm found left wing Petr Kanko streaking into the neutral zone as he sprung with a burst of speed into Admirals territory. Kanko carried the puck to the top of the left face-off circle before unleashing a slap shot that found its’ way between Rinne’s legs.
The Admirals created a few chances of their own late in the final frame but it wasn’t enough to beat Taylor. Their best opportunity came when Antti Pihlstrom received a centering pass from winger Cal O’Reilly before Daniel Taylor made a sliding pad save to keep the shutout intact. The Admirals finished the last minute of the game with a six-on-four power play after Taylor took a penalty for tripping and Rinne was pulled. Milwaukee circled around the Manchester net but never got the puck in.
Taylor stopped all 30 shots he faced for his first professional shutout. Rinne stopped 15-of-16 shots in the loss.
Milwaukee went 0-4 on the power play while the Monarchs didn’t convert on the only man advantage they had. Milwaukee has killed off their last 21 penalties.
The Admirals return to the Bradley Center to take on the Peoria Rivermen. The game time has been changed to 1:00 pm from the original 4:00 pm puck drop. Fans can purchase tickets for Saturday or any Admirals game by calling Ticketmaster at (414) 276-4545 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
