Jan 27, 2008
Binghamton, NY – Milwaukee Admirals goaltender Pekka Rinne took home the Rbk XPulse Top Goaltender award to help lead the PlanetUSA AHL All-Stars to a 15-9 victory over the Canadian squad in the 2008 CCM AHL All-Star Skills Competition at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena Sunday evening.
The Ads netminder captured the honors by turning aside 16 of the 19 Canadian shots that he faced on the night in three different competitions: the CCM U+ Rapid Fire contest, the Rbk 9K Pump Skate Pass and Score, and the Toyota Breakaway Relay.
Rinne and his Planet USA Teammates will attempt to make it two-for-two with a win in the AHL All-Star Game on Monday night at 6:00 pm CT. Admirals’ fans can watch the game live on Fox Sports Wisconsin.
In other action at the skills competition, Canadian forward Mark Mancari of the Rochester Americans shattered the AHL record in the Rbk O-Stick Hardest Shot event with a blast clocked at 102.8 miles per hour. PlanetUSA’s Jonathan Ericsson of the Grand Rapids Griffins also topped the century mark at 100.1 mph.
The Manchester Monarchs’ Gabe Gauthier posted just the second 4-for-4 effort ever in the Rbk Sickick Stick Accuracy Shooting competition, Toby Petersen of the Iowa Stars took the CCM U+ Skate Fastest Skater title with a time of 14.001 seconds, and PlanetUSA captain Keith Aucoin of the Albany River Rats won the individual InGlasCo Puck Control Relay.
