Milwaukee Breaks Serve

Feb 2, 2008

Josh Langfeld scored twice and added an assist and Antti Pihlstrom also scored two as the Milwaukee Admirals won their second straight game, downing the Rivermen at Peoria, 7-3.

The win was the first at Carver Arena for the Admirals this season. Milwaukee finished 1-3 this year at Peoria’s home rink in the regular season.

Peoria opened the scoring with a power play goal at 10:30. Defenseman Jeff Woywitka fired a slap shot that was slowed due to the fact his stick shattered. The puck was slapped around by a number of sticks in front of Admirals goalie Pekka Rinne before it came free to Martin Kariya. Kariya planted the puck into the net for his 13th goal of the season and a 1-0 Peoria lead.

Milwaukee tied the game at 13:31. The Admirals had a good long time of possession in the Rivermen zone. Andreas Thuresson fired a pass from the left corner to the right point that was intercepted by Milwaukee’s Antti Pihlstrom. Pihlstrom had just stepped onto the ice after a line change. He fired a wrist shot from the slot that beat Peoria goalie Chris Beckford-Tseu low to the glove side for his team-leading 17th goal of the year. Thuresson and Mike Santorelli notched the assists.

Milwaukee scored four times in the second period to put the game out of reach. Langfeld got the first. A pair of Peoria’s players ran into one another in the Milwaukee zone. The puck came free to Cal O’Reilly who skated ahead on the left wing before finding Langfeld with a pass at the Peoria blue line. Langfeld’s wrister beat Beckford-Tseu for his 14th goal of the season. O’Reilly notched the lone assist.

Ryan Maki scored his second goal of the season, and second goal against Peoria, with an unassisted tally at 3:47 of the second. A Peoria defender couldn’t catch the puck with his glove and it fluttered to Maki. Maki stepped across the Peoria blue line and sent a wrister into the net. The goal ended the night for Beckford-Tseu.

Langfeld scored his second of the night and 15th of the season when he backhanded his own blocked shot between the legs of relief goalie Marek Schwarz. The goal was unassisted.

Langfeld assisted on the final goal of the period at 19:39 which was scored by Kelsey Wilson with a backhander. Wilson’s seventh goal of the season was also assisted by O’Reilly.

Janne Niskala scored his eight power play goal of the year, 13th overall, with an assist from O’Reilly at 4:39 of the third.

After Cam Keith scored at 14:35 to give Peoria its second goal, Pihlstrom scored on a breakaway at 18:44 for the Admirals seventh goal of the night.

Julian Talbot scored a goal with 32 seconds left to complete the night.

Rinne stopped 28 of 31 shots.

The Admirals play at Manchester Monday night. Faceoff is at 6 p.m. Milwaukee time.
