Mar 28, 2008

Goalie Dov Grumet-Morris stopped 38 of 40 Grand Rapids shots to lead Milwaukee past the Griffins Friday in Grand Rapids, 3-2 in a shootout.

Grumet-Morris was playing in his first AHL shootout of the season. He had a 3-1 record with 14 saves on 17 shots in shootouts with ECHL Cincinnati earlier this year.

The Admirals got on the board first when John Vigilante scored his 13th goal of the year with a tuck-in just inside the right post at 4:16 of the first. Cody Franson fired a shot from the right point that was deflected by Matt Ellison to Vigilante. Ellison and Franson notched assists.

Milwaukee made the score 2-0 at 8:02 of the first period when Andreas Thuresson scored his ninth goal of the season. John Laliberte started the play with a pass from the right wing boards in the Griffins’ zone. He sent the pass to Gerard Miller at the left point. Miller’s shot was tipped over the left glove of goalie Adam Berkhoel for the tally. Miller and Laliberte notched the helpers.

Grand Rapids got on the board with an unassisted power play goal by Carl Corazzini at 19:05 of the first. He moved the puck from the left corner through the slot and around Grumet-Morris with a shot inside the right post.

The Griffins tied the game at :50 of the third period when Jonathan Ericsson’s shot from the right point beat Grumet-Morris low to the glove side. The goal was scored on the power play.

Grand Rapids had a lead after one round of the shootout as Corazzini scored. The next two Admirals skaters: Jason Guerriero and Ellison both scored while Grumet-Morris thwarted the other Griffins shooters to give Milwaukee the win.
