Admirals Shutout in Houston
Oct 13, 2008
The 2007-08 Houston Aeros allowed the fewest goals in the American Hockey League. Monday night, the 2008-09 version left Milwaukee scoreless in a 3-0 Admirals loss at the Toyota Center.
Goaltender Drew MacIntyre stopped 24 Aeros shots but his counterpart, Nolan Schaefer, stopped all 27 Admirals chances.
Houston scored a power play goal at 14:47 of the first when Ryan Hamilton completed a nice tic-tac-toe pass for his first goal of the year. Corey Locke started the play for the Aeros at the right point. His pass to Jesse Schultz in the left circle was swept by Schultz to the right post for Hamilton to put into the net. The power play goal was the first allowed by Milwaukee in ten chances on the young season.
After a scoreless second, the Aeros took a 2-0 lead early in the third. Former Admirals forward Marco Rosa tapped the puck to the center line where it was picked up by Krys Kolanos. Shielding the puck from Admirals defenseman Alex Sulzer with his left shoulder, Kolanos crashed to the net and lifted a wrist shot over MacIntyre's golve for his second goal of the season. Kolanos added an empty net, power play goal with 59 seconds to play to ice the win for the Aeros.
Milwaukee finished the game 0-4 on the power play and is 0-11 in two games.
Milwaukee travels to Peoria Friday. Faceoff is at 7 p.m.
