Admirals Win Third Straight
Dec 10, 2008
The Milwaukee Admirals won their third straight game with a 5-3 win over the Quad City Flames Wednesday in Moline, IL.
The Admirals completed their first five game road trip of the season with four wins.
Mike Santorelli also extended his points streak to ten games and his streak of games with a goal to seven, the longest goals streak in the AHL this season.
Jed Ortmeyer scored the game-winner at 11:48 of the third period to give the Admirals the team’s third straight win. Andreas Thuresson fired a pass from the right circle into the slot for an Ortmeyer one-timer. It was Ortmeyer’s first goal of the season.
Milwaukee’s Nick Spaling scored his second goal in as many games when he intercepted a clearing attempt in the Flames zone. Spaling skated from the right wing boards into the slot and fired a wristshot over the left shoulder of goalie Matt Keetley. The unassisted goal was Spaling’s fifth goal of the season.
Spaling made it 2-0 at 1:11 of the second period when he banged a shot while perched on the right post. Andreas Thuresson passed the puck to Mark Matheson at the left point. Matheson’s shot was deflected to Spaling for the goal. It was Spaling’s second two-goal game of the season.
The Flames got on the board when defenseman Brad Cole bounced a shot over Drew MacIntyre’s left pad at 3:09 of the second.
Santorelli scored at 11:15 on the power play to give the Admirals a 3-1 lead. The shot was converted after a pass from the left point by Alex Sulzer to the right circle for Cal O’Reilly then back to Santorelli at the left circle.
The Flames tied the game though when six minutes of power play time was called against Milwaukee on a single play. Flames defenseman Anders Eriksson carried the puck into the Admirals zone. MacIntyre came out to challenge but Eriksson went around him in the left circle. While defending the play, Sulzer got his stick onto Eriksson’s face and Teemu Laakso slid and knocked the net off its moorings. Laakso received a delay of game penalty and Sulzer was assessed a double minor for high sticking. The Flames Jamie Lundmark scored at 12:31 and Kyle Greentree knotted the game at 13:15
Ryan Jones added an empty net goal with an O’Reilly assist with 19.9 seconds to play.
MacIntyre stopped 25 shots for his 10th win of the season.
The Admirals return home to face Rockford Friday night at 7:00 p.m. It’s WE Energies Calendar Night and another U.S. Cellular Teddy Bear Toss will take place. When the Admirals score the team’s first goal of the night (or at the start of the first intermission, whichever comes first) fans will throw the Teddy Bears onto the ice. The toys will be collected and given to needy children in the area.
