Arrowhead, University School Advance in RBC Wealth Management High School Hockey Tournament

Milwaukee, WI--University School of Milwaukee topped Marquette University High School and Hartland Arrowhead beat Brookfield in the opening round games of the RBC Wealth Management High School Hockey Showdown Friday afternoon at the Bradley Center.

Arrowhead and University School will face-off in the Championship game on Monday, December 29th at 2:40 pm at the Bradley Center. Brookfield and Marquette will hit the ice at 12:00 pm in the consolation game. All games for the RBC Wealth Management High School Hockey Showdown are free and open to the public. Doors to the Bradley Center will open at 11:30 am.

The first game was all Arrowhead.  The Warhawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first 20 minutes of play. The goals came from Clark, Brendan Garvey, and Connor McBride.

The second period was all Arrowhead as well, as they raised their lead to six with goals from Brian Garvey, Clark, and Brian Berger. Most of their goals came from shots on the point that generated rebounds with the exception of a one-timer fed to Berger. Tony Koehler and Nick Szaliacinski also notched points with assists.

Brookfield was finally able to get on the board in the third period when just three minutes in Junior Taylor Anderson won the faceoff draw to fellow classmate Garrett Johnson who wristed a shot past the Arrowhead netminder. It wouldn’t do much for the game, however, as Arrowhead sealed the victory with a hatrick goal from David Clark at 12:41 of the third period to give them a 9-1 lead.

Clark’s seven-point night earned him the first star honors, while his linemate Brian Berger recorded five points in the game.

USM started the scoring just 40 seconds into the second game with a breakaway goal by Alex Tesensky that beat Marquette goalie Paul Maglio five-hole. Tesensky would also score his second at 8:47 of the stanza when he popped in a rebound in front of the net, with assists being credited to Charlie Wigdale and Simon Leahy.

The second period saw no scoring until University School’s Peter Lanigan shoved in a rebound with just a minute left in the period after a shot from Beau Palin at the point. Palin and Ian Crimmins were credited with assists on the play.

The start of the third period saw Simon Leahy getting a perfect set up pass from Colin Fritz in front of the net for a one-timer goal to put USM up 4-1. Tesensky was credited with an assist on the play as well.

Marquette would finally get on the board with eight minutes left in the third when Casey Schelble fired a wrister from the point to beat USM goaltender Dan Smyzcek. Sean Gebhard and Tim Sweeney were awarded assists on the play.

With 1:01 left in the period Simon Leahy scored his second goal of the game to make it a 5-1 game, putting USM in the finals.

Tesensky posted three points, including two goals, to led the Wildcats offense, while Leahy added a pair of goals. Dan Smyzcek made 15 saves while Marquette netminder Paul Maglio stopped 29 out of 34 attempts.
