Win Streak Ends at Six
Jan 2, 2009
The Milwaukee Admirals six-game winning streak came to an end in Moline, IL as the Quad City Flames scored a 2-1 win in overtime.
With Milwaukee defenseman Alex Sulzer in the penalty box, the Flames Anders Eriksson fired a shot from the blue line that got past Milwaukee goalie Mark Dekanich at :51 of overtime. The win was Quad City’s first this season in a game that went beyond regulation time (1-7 in OT and shootouts). Milwaukee’s loss was its first in OT (3-1 record).
Dekanich was magnificent once again, stopping several odd-man rushes by the Flames. Dekanich finished the night with 35 saves on 37 shots.
Mike Santorelli, the AHL’s Player of the Month for December, helped put Milwaukee up with an assist on Patric Hornqvist’s power play goal at 15:44 of the first period. Santorelli’s wrist shot from the left circle was deflected in front of Flames goalie Matt Keetley by Hornqvist for his fifth goal of the season, third on the power play. Santorelli and Cal O’Reilly notched the assists for the Admirals.
The Flames tied the game when Carsen Germyn was able to start a 2-on-1 out of the Quad City zone. Germyn found Kyle Greentree on the left wing for a goal just 57 seconds into the second period.
The Milwaukee Admirals return to the Bradley Center Ice this Saturday, January 3rd at 7:30 pm against the Peoria Rivermen in search of a team record-tying 10th consecutive home win. The first 5,000 fans through the gates Saturday will receive an Admirals/Milwaukee Brewers Winter hat, courtesy of the Brewers.
