Milwaukee Extends Lead with Win

Jan 17, 2009

The Milwaukee Admirals beat the Iowa Chops for the fifth time in six games Saturday night, 2-1.

Admirals goalie Drew MacIntyre, on in relief of Mark Dekanich, picked up his league-leading 19th win of the season as the Admirals stretched its West Division lead over second-place Iowa to 11 points. MacIntyre stopped 19 of 20 Iowa shots.

Dekanich left the game after a collision between he, Milwaukee defenseman Scott Ford and Iowa forward Ryan Dingle at 5:01 of the first period.

MacIntyre had to withstand several Iowa chances in the final 1:12 of the third when defenseman Cody Franson went to the penalty box for high sticking. The Chops pulled the goalie, but Milwaukee withstood the pressure for the win.

The Admirals scored the first goal of the game at 14:21 of the first period. Mark Santorelli threw a check on a Chops defenseman in the right wing corner. That jarred the puck free to Cal O’Reilly behind the Iowa net. O’Reilly made a quick pass to the top of the right circle where Jed Ortmeyer unloaded a quick shot over the right hand of Iowa goalie J.P. Levasseur. It was Ortmeyer’s eighth goal of the season. O’Reilly picked up the lone assist.

Santorelli was credited with an assist on the Admirals second goal, scored with just 37.1 seconds left in the second period. Santorelli, in the right corner, passed the puck behind the Chops net for Patric Hornqvist. Hornqvist sent a pass into the slot for defenseman Ramholt. Ramholt’s wristshot beat Levasseur over his left hand (blocker) for his second goal of the season. Hornqvist notched an assist along with Santorelli.

Iowa’s Petteri Wirtanen tipped a shot past MacIntyre for Iowa’s goal, on the power play, at 1:54 of the third.

Milwaukee returns to the Bradley Center to host Quad City at 4 p.m. Jan. 18.
