Admirals Rebound in Rockford
Jan 24, 2009
Ryan Jones and Mike Santorelli both recorded a goal and an assist as the Milwaukee Admirals beat the Rockford IceHogs Saturday in Rockford, 4-2.
The win gives Milwaukee 62 points, 12 more than second-place Rockford and Houston, heading into the All-Star Break.
Jones scored the game-winner at 3:49 of the third period on a wraparound. Jones initial shot was stopped by Rockford goalie Corey Crawford, but he dragged the rebound around the net and was able to beat Crawford to the right goalpost for his 12th goal of the season. Mike Santorelli recorded the lone assist.
Milwaukee iced the game when Patric Hornqvist fed Cal O’Reilly for the team’s fourth goal with 6:47 left in the game. Hornqvist was chasing a loose puck and appeared to have a breakaway. However, he was tripped from behind. With a delayed penalty coming to Rockford, Hornqvist got up to his feet and passed to O’Reilly in the left circle. O’Reilly’s wristshot went into the net for his seventh goal of the season.
The Admirals got off to a great start when the opening faceoff was sent into the Icehogs zone by Nolan Yonkman. Jed Ortmeyer checked a Rockford defenseman to jar the puck free to Jones behind the net. Jones quickly dealt a pass to Mike Santorelli for a one-timer that beat Rockford goalie Corey Crawford just 12 seconds into the game. Santorelli’s goal was his 14th of the season and assists were credited to Jones and Ortmeyer.
The IceHogs tied the game at 15:59 of the first period when Rob Klinkhammer received a pass behind the Milwaukee defense and lifted a shot over goalie Drew MacIntyre’s right shoulder.
Milwaukee reclaimed the lead when Kelsey Wilson scored on a wristshot with just 40 seconds remaining in the first period. Wilson had just exited the penalty box when Nick Spaling blocked a pass off his knee to neutral ice. Wilson claimed possession of the puck near the Rockford blue line, then sped in to the left circle and beat Crawford for his ninth goal of the year. Spaling notched the lone helper.
The IceHogs tied the game at 12:55 of the second on a Dan Bertram wristshot.
MacIntyre finished with 31 saves in recording his AHL-leading 21st win.
