Admirals Fall in Iowa

Feb 28, 2009

The Iowa Chops snapped a nine-game winless streak in beating the Milwaukee Admirals 2-1 Saturday in Des Moines, IA.

The Chops got the game-winning goal at 1:35 of the third period. Ryan Dingle carried the puck from behind the Admirals net to the right circle and fired a shot that clanged off the left post.

Milwaukee struggled in the second period. Iowa outshot the Admirals 14-1. However, Admirals goalie Mark Dekanich was solid in stopping all 14 Chops chances.

Iowa took a 1-0 lead less than 90 seconds into the game. Petteri Wirtanen sent a shot toward the net from the right wing boards that Dekanich lost sight of. Wirtanen’s goal at 1:28 was his 10th of the season.

Milwaukee tied the game when Patric Hornqvist skated into the Chops zone on the left wing. His wrist shot from the left circle eluded goalie David LeNeveu at 13:18 to tie the game at one. Mark Matheson recorded the lone assist. The goal, his 12th of the season, extended Hornqvist’s goal scoring streak to three games.
