Dekanich Leads Admirals to Win
Mar 11, 2009
Milwaukee goalie Mark Dekanich stopped 46 shots while Cal O’Reilly and Patric Hornqvist recorded three-point nights to lead the Admirals to a 3-2 win at Rockford Wednesday.
Dekanich stopped 18 of 19 shots in the third period to preserve the win.
Hornqvist scored the game-winner with a power play goal from the right circle at 4:27 of the third. Receiving a feed from O’Reilly, Hornqvist’s quickly released shot went into the net to give him a goal in eight straight games, a Milwaukee AHL record and the second longest streak in the league this season. Cody Franson also recorded an assist.
Milwaukee took a 1-0 lead when O’Reilly knocked a rebound of a Hornqvist shot into the net at 9:30 of the first period. Hornqvist carried the puck to the bottom of the right circle and fired a shot that IceHogs goalie Corey Crawford stopped. However, the rebound went off O’Reilly for his 12th goal of the season. Hornqvist and Kelsey Wilson recorded assists.
Rockford tied the game at 12:27 of the second period when Tyler Mosienko backhanded a bouncing puck past Dekanich. The tie score was short-lived because O’Reilly scored his second goal of the night just 50 seconds later with a blast from the left circle that exploded over the right shoulder of Crawford. With Milwaukee on the power play, Mike Santorelli pushed the faceoff to the right corner. With everybody pursuing the puck, Hornqvist sent a pass to a wide-open O’Reilly in the slot for his fourth power play tally of the season.
Rockford’s Bryan Bickell scored with 7:50 to play to cut the deficit to one, but Dekanich stopped everything after that.
The Admirals finished with 32 shots.
