Admirals Complete Five-Game Trip With Win
Mar 18, 2009
Cal O'Reilly scored with 20.3 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Admirals a 2-1 victory over the Monsters Wednesday at Lake Erie.
O'Reilly carried the puck into the offensive zone on the left wing with Mike Santorelli lined up on the right wing. O'Reilly followed Santorelli and drove to the net, forcing Lake Erie goalie Jason Bacashihua to commit. O'Reilly pulled the puck around the net and wrapped it around the left post for the game-winner. It was his 14th goal of the season.
The win pushed Milwaukee to 94 points, the second most in the AHL behind only Manitoba (95). The Admirals winning percentage, however, is the best in the league (.701).
Santorelli tied the game for the Admirals when he completed a 2-on-1 rush with Kelsey Wilson. Admirals defenseman Scott Ford cleared the puck out of the Admirals zone, catching the Monsters on a line change. Wilson caught the pass and moved it to Santorelli. The Admirals center carried the puck from the right circle, faked a shot in the slot, then moved to his backhand to send the puck between Bacashihua's stick and the left goalpost at 8:35 of the second period. The goal was Santorelli's team-leading 20th of the season. Wilson and Ford recorded the assists.
Lake Erie scored first when Phil Dupuis fired a wristshot from the right circle past Mark Dekanich while the Monsters were on the power play. The Monsters lone goal was scored with 4:47 to play in the first period and was assisted by former Admirals forward Chris Durno.
Dekanich stopped 21 shots to earn his 13th win of the season. He lowered his goals against average to 2.06, which ranks third in the AHL.
The win was Milwaukee's 43rd of the season and 20th on the road. It was also Milwaukee's first ever win against the Lake Erie Monsters. The teams first met Oct. 22 in Cleveland with the Monsters edging Milwaukee 4-3.
The Admirals finished their five-game road trip with a 3-0-0-2 mark and extended its streak of games without a regulation loss to eight (6-0-0-2). The team will return home to the Bradley Center this Friday, March 20th at 7:00 pm against Lake Erie. Fans can buy tickets by calling Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
