IceHogs Edge Milwaukee
Mar 23, 2009
Pete MacArthur scored the lone goal of the third period to lead the IceHogs over the Milwaukee Admirals Monday in Rockford, 2-1.
It was Milwaukee’s first loss at Rockford this season (3-1-0-0, 5-3-0-1 overall).
MacArthur scored the game winner with 4:46 remaining in the third period with a crash to the net from the left corner. He skated in front of Admirals goalie Drew MacIntyre and put a back-hander into the net. Evan Brophey and Tim Brent notched the assists.
Former University of Wisconsin forward Jack Skille gave Rockford a 1-0 lead at 4:35 of the first period. Skille carried the puck from the right wing boards into the slot before firing a wristshot over the left shoulder MacIntyre.
Ryan Maki finally got the Admirals on the board with his first professional power play goal with two minutes to play in the second period. Robert Dietrich held the puck in the middle of the blue line then passed to Mike Santorelli at the top of the left circle. Santorelli fed Maki at the bottom of the left circle. His wristshot beat goalie Antti Niemi to the opposite post for his eighth goal of the season. Santorelli and Dietrich notched the assists.
The loss keeps the Admirals magic number to clinch the West Division to six. Any combination of Admirals points earned and Houston points not earned that adds up to six will give Milwaukee its third division crown in six years.
