Losing Streak Reaches Three
Mar 27, 2009
Julian Talbot scored two goals to lead the Peoria Rivermen over the Milwaukee Admirals Friday at Carver Arena, 4-3.
The loss was a season-high third in a row for the Admirals.
Carl Corazzini gave Peoria a 1-0 lead when he skated from the left wing boards to the slot in Milwaukee’s zone and fired a shot past goalie Mark Dekanich at 5:36 of the first period.
Five goals were scored in the second period, with the Rivermen notching three. Julian Talbot crashed to the Admirals net with what appeared to be a breakaway, but Admirals defenseman Scott Ford took him down before the shot was taken. That gave Talbot a penalty shot, which he scored on at 5:40 of the second period.
The Admirals got withing one at 6:51 when veteran goalie Manny Legace misplayed a puck behind the Peoria net. Ian McKenzie swept a pass from the left post into the crease where Ryan Maki buried it for his ninth goal of the season. McKenzie was awarded the lone assist, his first career AHL point.
Peoria reclaimed a two goal lead when Steve Regier knocked a rebound of a Ryan Reaves shot into the net at 8:30 of the second period. The Rivermen made it 4-1 when Talbot scored a power play goal at 14:05.
Mark Santorelli poked the puck loose at center from a Peoria defenseman and made a left wing pass to older brother Mike Santorelli to lead to the Admirals second goal of the night. Mike Santorelli carried the puck into the offensive zone, skated to the right circle and fired a wristshot over Legace’s right shoulder to make at 4-2 with 5:48 left in the second period.
Hugh Jessiman made it 4-3 when he scored a power play goal with a slapshot right off the faceoff in the right circle of Peoria’s zone. It was his 18th goal of the season and seventh on the power play. Mike Santorelli notched the lone assist.
Dekanich stopped 29 shots in the loss.
The Admirals will return to the Bradley Center in a Hockey-Styx Extravaganza beginning at 7:30 pm when the Admirals battle the Iowa Chops. Following the game, national recording artist Styx will perform live in concert, presented by Miller Lite and Lee Jeans. The concert is free with a game ticket.
