Admirals Drop Aeros, Tie Series at One

May 2, 2009

Milwaukee, WI – The Milwaukee Admirals, with the help of a pair of goals by Ryan Jones, avenged a game one loss by scoring three unanswered tallies to cruise past the Aeros by a score of 4-1 Saturday night at the Bradley Center.

The win evened the best-of-seven West Division Finals at a game apiece and the series will now shift to Houston for games three through five.

Just five minutes after Houston had knotted the score at one, Jones got the momentum back in the Admirals direction with a power-play tally at 16:25 of the second.

Cody Franson and Cal O’Reilly were working the puck around in the offensive zone when a pass came to Jones. Although his back was turned to the goalie, he decided to turn around and take a no-looker slapshot that gusted past Houston goalie Anton Khudobin and into the back of the net.

Mike Santorelli secured a two-goal lead 2:37 into the third period when he followed his own rebound off of a shot from the left wing hash marks and stuffed it past Khudobin’s pad. Jed Ortmeyer was picked up his fifth point of the playoffs on the play with an assist.

Jones struck again for the Admirals to give the team 4-1 lead and put the game, for all intents and purposes, out of reach.

With 8:59 remaining in the game, aggressive forechecking by Mike Santorelli resulted in a turnover in the Houston zone. Santorelli dropped a perfect one time pass behind his back where Jones was waiting to rip another slapshot that beat the Houston netminder five-hole for his 2nd goal of the game.

“I thought we responded well, it’s obviously the biggest win we’ve had all year,” said Admirals Head Coach Lane Lambert.

Early on, just 2:59 into the game, Cody Franson skated down the right side after getting a pass from fellow D-man Robert Dietrich. As quickly as he received the pass, he blasted a laser slapshot from above the circle that beat Khudobin high blocker side for his second goal of the playoffs.

It wouldn’t be until 11:44 of the second period when Houston would get on the board. Former Admiral Bryan Lundbohm took a slapshot from above the circle on Drew MacIntyre, and the puck bounced out to ex-Wisconsin Badger Robbie Earl who shoved the rebound in from an odd angle for his 3rd goal of the playoffs.

“All we do is take it one game at a time, one period at a time, one shift at a time,” added Lambert.

The series now switches to Houston for games three through five at the Toyota Center. Game three is Tuesday night at 7:00 pm, game four is set for Thursday at 7:00 pm and game five will be on Saturday at 7:35 pm. Admiral fans can watch game three live at Major Goolsbys and game four at Buck Bradley’s.
