Admirals Fall to Aeros in Game 7

May 13, 2009

Milwaukee, WI - The Houston Aeros scored two goals early in the first period and the Admirals couldn't find a way to make up the difference as they dropped game seven of the West Division Finals 5-2 Wednesday night at the Bradley Center.

“This was a very frustrating series,” said Drew MacIntyre. “They played their systems very well, and tonight we just don’t have an excuse. They played a better game 7.”

Houston started the scoring just 3:34 into the game in front of a pumped crowd when Corey Locke snuck in a backhand past Drew MacIntyre after Maxim Noreau ripped a slapshot from the point.

Just under a minute later Krys Kolanos ripped a shot past MacIntyre that slipped right under his glove and off the post and helped quite the frenzied crowd.

The Admirals got back into the game when Patric Hornqvist took a ripper of a wrist shot from the mid hash-marks after receiving a pass from Cal O’Reilly to cut the lead in half. Robert Dietrich also received an assist, giving him five points in the last two games.

Houston took a 3-1 lead when Clayton Stoner blasted a slapper from right inside the blue line on a powerplay, with the assists coming from Brandon Rigers and Benoit Pouliot.

In hopes to keep the game alive, Mike Santorelli slid a wrist shot past Anton Khudobin with just 1:02 remaining in the second period after an Aeros turnover.

But the Admirals couldn’t find the equalizer before Houston capitalized on a 2-1 involving former Admirals Bryan Lundbohm and Tony Hrkac in a give and go which resulted in a 4-2 Houston lead and shut down the Admirals momentum.

Houston put the final empty netter in when Corey Locke popped in the empty netter to end the Admirals season.
