Spaling Scores Again, This Time in Preds Win

Chet Pickard and Jeremy Smith combined for a 28-save shutout to lead the Predators rookies to a 3-0 win over the Atlanta Thrashers rookies on Tuesday afternoon in the second game of their two-game rookie series. Colin Wilson had a goal and an assist to pace the Preds offense and finished the two-game series with two goals and three points along with five shots on goal and a +4 plus-minus rating.

Taylor Beck and Nick Spaling netted the other Preds goals and finished the two game series with three points a piece. Spaling, the captain for the rookie squad, had two goals and one assist with eight shots on goal and a +4 plus-minus rating.

The Predators took a 1-0 lead 10:15 into the opening period on Beck's goal. Spaling pushed the lead to 2-0 with nine seconds remaining in the first period. After a scoreless second period, Wilson closed out the scoring with an empty net goal with 16 seconds left in the game. Charles-Olivier Roussel, a second round pick this summer, picked up an assist on Wilson's goal, his second straight game with a point.

Jonathon Blum, who had a team-high four shots last night, fired another three shots today, along with a +3 plus-minus rating.

Pickard stopped all 13 shots he faced in 32:15 of action, while Smith made 15 saves in 27:45.
