Milwaukee, WI—Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has reduced the club’s roster to 25 players, assigning forwards Triston Grant and Peter Olvecky and defensemen Alexander Sulzer and Nolan Yonkman to the Milwaukee Admirals
In three seasons with the Admirals, Yonkman has totaled six goals and 24 assists for 30 points, to go along with 296 penalty minutes in 207 games. Last year the Ads’ captain registered ten points (3g-7a) and 80 PIMs in 61 regular season games and 15 penalty minutes in 11 post-season contests. He established career highs in assists (10), points (13), and games played (77) with Milwaukee in the 2006-07 campaign and served as an alternate captain during his first two years with team before being awarded the captain's “C” last year.
Grant posted three goals and eight assists for 11 points, and notched 153 penalty minutes, which was second best on the team, in 55 games for the Admirals in 2008-09. The 6-1, 210-pound right wing also ranked third on the Admirals in plus/minus rating (+11) and was one of just four AHLers to post more than 150 penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating in double digits. Originally selected by Philadelphia in the ninth round (286th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Grant totaled 12 PIMs and two points in 11 post-season games for Milwaukee. The Neepawa, MB native has one assist and ten penalty minutes in eight NHL games, all with the Philadelphia Flyers.
Sulzer made his NHL debut with the Predators last season on January 15 against Montreal, becoming the first German-born player to skate for Nashville. The Kaufbeuren, Germany native recorded 34 points (8g-26a) and 36 penalty minutes in 48 games for the Admirals. In two years for Milwaukee, Sulzer has registered 66 points on 15 goals and 51 assists in 109 contests.
Olvecky split the 2008-09 season between the Minnesota Wild and the Houston Aeros, posting seven points (2g-5a) in 31 NHL games and 23 points (6g-17a) in 41 AHL contests. A native of Trencin, Slovakia, Olvecky spent his first three North American seasons with the Aeros, amassing 92 points (43g-49a) in 197 games from 2005-08. Drafted 78th overall (third round) by Minnesota in the 2004 Entry Draft, the 6-2, 195-pound left wing represented Slovakia in the 2009 World Championships in April and May, notching an assist in five games.
Milwaukee will open the regular season on Saturday, October 3 in Chicago against the Wolves at 7:00 pm. After a six game road trip to start the year, the Ads will kick off the home portion of their schedule on Saturday, October 24 at 7:00 pm against the Manitoba Moose at the Bradley Center.
