Guite, Admirals Go Moose Hunting

Ben Guite’s power-play goal with 48 seconds left in overtime capped a thrilling home opener for the Milwaukee Admirals as they defeated the Manitoba Moose 3-2. Mike Santorelli had two goals to lead the way for the Ads, who are now 3-3-0-1 on the season.
Santorelli not only scored two goals for the Ads but drew the hooking penalty in overtime as he drove to the net that led to Guite’s game-winner. During the subsequent power-play the Ads were able to move the puck around the zone when Ben Eaves put a shot on net from the circle. Guite, in only his second game with Milwaukee, was camped in front of the net and buried the rebound. Eaves and Robert Dietrich were given assists on the goal.
The Admirals looked like they had suffered jet leg in the first period as they were out shot 13-6. Manitoba went ahead late in the opening stanza when Brian Salcido scored on the power play at 17:18. The goal was assisted by Michael Funk and Marco Rosa and the Moose held a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Santorelli continued his hot start as he collected his third and fourth goals of the year and now has eight points in the young season. His first goal tied the game at one at the 4:15 mark of the second period after he controlled the puck following a face-off and fired a wrister that beat Manitoba goalie Darren Machesney.
With 4:16 left in the second period the Moose scored again on the power play and moved back ahead on Sergei Shirokov goal. A pass from Marty Murray back door beat Dekanich as Manitoba moved ahead 2-1. Evan Oberg also had an assist on the play.
The Ads didn’t trail for long as Santorelli went top shelf from the top of the slot on Machesney at 16:47 of the second. Peter Olvecky and Robert Dietrich had the helpers on the goal.
Machesney ended the evening with 35 saves for Manitoba who are now 7-4-0-1.
Dekanich, after turning aside 12 shots in the first period, had an easier time of the it the rest of the way, finishing the night with 27 saves. The Ads looked like they had more energy then the Moose as they held Manitoba to three shots in the third period and none in overtime.
The Admirals who started with their first six games on the road now play six out of seven at home. They face the Abbotsford Heat Wednesday night at 7 p.m. and the Bradley Center.
