Admirals Fall in OT to Griffins
Nov 13, 2009
Doug Janik scored 1:21 into overtime to give the Grand Rapids Griffins a 3-2 win over the Milwaukee Admirals at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids.
Janik received a pass at the right point and fired a slapshot over the left glove of goalie Chet Pickard.
Ryan Jones scored a 5-on-3 power play goal at 10:11 of the first period to give Milwaukee a 1-0 lead. Robert Dietrich’s shot from the left circle went wide. Cal O’Reilly picked up the puck in the right corner and fed Jones for a tip-in goal, his first of the season. O’Reilly and Dietrich notched the helpers.
Milwaukee was whistled for three penalties to start the second period and the Griffins, which came in converting 29.7% of power plays on home ice, were able to tie the game. Mattias Ritola buried a rebound of a Kris Newbury slapshot at 6:44.
The Admirals reclaimed the lead at 14:59 of the second period when Dave Scatchard slid a shot past Thomas McCollum. The power play goal, Scatchard’s fifth in six Milwaukee games, was assisted by Jones and O’Reilly.
Grand Rapids tied the game at 7:42 of the third period when Patrick Rissmiller deflected Janik’s slapper from the left point.
