Admirals Take OT Win in Houston
Nov 22, 2009
Cal O’Reilly scored the game winner at 2:39 of overtime to lead the Milwaukee Admirals over the Houston Aeros Sunday afternoon at the Toyota Center, 2-1.
Wacey Rabbit stole the puck from defenseman Clayton Stoner on the right wing wall. Rabbit moved to the slot and put a shot on goal. Houston netminder Anton Khudobin made the save by stretching out his left skate but O’Reilly pounded the rebound into the net for his fourth goal of the season.
Admirals goalie Chet Pickard, making back-to-back starts for the first time as a professional athlete, earned the win with 25 saves.
Milwaukee struck first when Ryan Jones scored his third goal of the season at 4:19 of the first period. O’Reilly fed the puck to Dave Scatchard in the slot. Scatchard’s shot was stopped but Jones, joining the play after a line change, put the rebound into the net. Scatchard and O’Reilly recorded the assists. The goal was Jones second in as many games and third in the last four games.
Houston tied the game with only 2.2 seconds remaining in the second period. A scramble took place in front of the Milwaukee net after Houston’s Nathan Smith took the puck strongly to the net. The puck bounced into the crease and was cleared to the blue line by Mark Matheson. Maxim Noreau held the zone for the Aeros and fired a slap shot that was deflected past Pickard by Petr Kalus for his fourth goal of the year.
