Admirals Lose in Texas Shootout

Nov 25, 2009

Chet Pickard turned in another strong game as the Milwaukee Admirals earned a point on the road in a shootout loss to the Texas Stars Wednesday night, 2-1.

Pickard stopped 23 of 24 shots during regulation and overtime before being beaten twice in four shootout attempts by the Stars.

Milwaukee outshot Texas in the scoreless first period 10-6. The Stars struck first in the second period. Perttu Lindgren made a pass to the right point for Trevor Ludwig. The defenseman shot wide of the net but the puck bounced off the boards to Raymond Sawada who planted the puck into the net for his first goal of the season.

The Stars held the lead until the final 75 seconds. Milwaukee pulled Pickard for an extra attacker with 1:11 to play in the game. Just three seconds later, Dave Scatchard fired a shot from the right corner that eluded Stars netminder Matt Climie. The bad-angle goal, Scatchard's team-leading seventh of the year, was assisted by Cal O'Reilly and Alex Sulzer.

In overtime, the Admirals had the best chance to score. Sulzer had the puck at the right point and faked a shot. Two Stars players slid by as Sulzer carried the puck to his left. He passed to Peter Olvecky in the right circle but Climie was able to make the save.

Milwaukee's four shooters in the shootout: Mark Santorelli, Robert Dietrich, Wacey Rabbit and Jon Blum were unable to score against Climie. Texas' first two shooters: Greg Rallo and Fabian Brunnstrom were thwarted by Pickard. The next two: Ivan Vishnevskiy and Warren Peters each scored to ice the win.

Milwaukee earned a point with the loss and finds itself in fourth place with 22 points in 19 games. Houston and Chicago are tied for second place in the West Division with 23 points while Texas has a healthy lead with 34 points in 23 games.

The game, played at the Cedar Park Center in Cedar Park, TX, was the first ever between the Stars and Admirals.

The Admirals continue the eight game road trip Friday when the same teams meet again in Cedar Park, TX. Milwaukee's next home game is Dec. 2 when the Peoria Rivermen visit the Bradley Center.
