Santorelli Gives Ads a Merry Christmas
Dec 20, 2009
Milwaukee, WI – The Milwaukee Admirals overcame three one-goal deficits to defeat the San Antonio Rampage 4-3 Sunday afternoon at the Bradley Center. Mike Santorelli led the way for the Admirals, recording both the game-tying and game-winning goals en route to the Ads victory.
Rampage Center Kyle Turris opened a high scoring first period 1:20 into the frame when he slid a rebound past Reid Cashman and into an open net. Cashman was defending the goal after Admirals Goalie Mark Dekanich was caught on the opposite side of the crease and unable to recover.
Wacey Rabbit knotted the score at one as he tipped a shot past Rampage Goaltender Josh Tordjman midway through the period. Mark Matheson set up the play by unleashing a blast from the far point. Ryan Maki redirected the puck and Rabbit deflected it a second time to get the Admirals on the board.
San Antonio went up 2-1 five minutes later on the power play. Shaun Heshka moved the puck to Brett MacLean in the near corner who sent a backhand pass through the slot to a wide open Jeff May. May roofed the puck past Dekanich for the goal.
The Admirals evened the score again with 2:18 remaining in the first period. Peter Olvecky moved the puck to Cal O’Reilly in the near corner and O’Reilly passed the puck to Andreas Thuresson who was open in the slot. Thuresson beat Tordjman top shelf for his second goal of the year.
Chad Kolarik gave the Rampagae their third lead of the game at 11:38 of the second period. Screening Dekanich, Kalorik deflected Kevin Porter’s shot from the point past the outstretched glove of the net minder.
The Admirals struck back with just over two minutes to play in the second period. Robert Dietrich found Santorelli streaking through the neutral zone and fed the speedy Admirals center, who went to the net untouched and put a shot off Tordjman’s right pad. The goalie made the save, but the rebound came right back to Santorelli and he capitalized on the second chance, making the score 3-3.
Santorelli lit the lamp again 2:27 into the third period, giving the Admirals their first lead of the game. Maki’s hard forechecking allowed him to coral the puck in the far corner and find Santorelli open in the slot. Santorelli fired the puck through traffic past the Rampage goaltender to put Milwaukee up 4-3.
Dekanich held strong for the remainder of the period, turning away all ten of San Antonio third period shots to give Milwaukee the win. Overall, he turned away 24 of 27 Rampage attempts.
Maki’s pair of helpers was his first multipoint game of the season.
