Univversity School Claims RBC Shootout Championship
Dec 29, 2009
Milwaukee, WI--University School of Milwaukee defeated Hartland Arrowhead 4-2 to win the RBC Wealth Management Shootout Tuesday afternoon at the Bradley Center.
USM Forward Alex Tesensky led the way for the Wildcats with two first period goals and an assist.
USM got on the board first as defenseman Charlie James sent the puck to Tesensky who fired a wrist shot past Arrowhead goalie Jake Mitchell from the top of the far circle 2:12 into the first period.
Tesensky lit the lamp a second time just 2:18 later. Michael made a save on the initial shot, but the puck deflected off an Arrowhead defender and into the net to put USM up 2-0.
USM struck again 9:48 into the second frame. Aaron Storch corralled the puck off a faceoff win by Tesensky in the offensive zone, moved to the net, and slid the puck past the goaltender for a 3-0 USM lead.
Colton Sweitzer was able to get Arrowhead on the scoreboard with just under two minutes to play in the second period. Donovan Blakney found an open Sweitzer who’s first shot was stopped by the USM net minder, but he got his own rebound and put the puck top shelf for the goal.
University School stayed aggressive, reclaiming their three goal lead five minutes into the third period. USM’s Ashton Wackym picked off a pass from Michael just outside the crease and sent a wrist shot past the goalie.
Arrowhead found the back of the net for the second time with five minutes to play. Arrowhead Defenseman Donovan Blakney sent the puck to Switzer in the far corner who proceeded to skate towards the slot and shoot the puck five-hole, making the score 4-2. However, it was too little too late as USM held strong to win the championship.
University School Goalie Dan Smyzcek turned away 20 of 22 shots on goal as USM avenged last year’s 7-0 championship game loss to Arrowhead.
