Milwaukee Wins First Shootout

Dave Scatchard forced overtime and Mark Dekanich stopped four of five Lake Erie shooters in a shootout as the Milwaukee Admirals downed the Monsters in Cleveland, 3-2.

 

Milwaukee won its first game in a shootout after losing the team’s first five tries.

 

Milwaukee’s first two shooters in the best-of-five shootout, Cal O’Reilly and Mark Santorelli both scored. Lake Erie’s third shooter, T.J. Hensick, was the only player to beat Dekanich, who stopped Brent Skinner’s backhander to win the game. Dekanich stopped 21 of 23 before the shootout.

 

Scatchard’s goal came with just 1:34 remaining in the third period. Mark Matheson’s slapshot from the right point was deflected into the net for Scatchard’s second goal of the game and tenth of the season. Robert Dietrich also notched an assist.

 

The Admirals outshot Lake Erie in the third period, 13-4.

 

Lake Erie got on the board first with a bad-hop goal. Josh Aspenlind carried the puck to the left circle of the Admirals zone. His shot deflected off Reid Cashman directly to Cedric McNicoll in the right circle for a relatively easy goal at 7:45 of the first period.

 

Milwaukee tied the game just 49 seconds later. Peter Olvecky sent a pass into the crease for Scatchard. Monsters goalie Tyler Weiman poked the puck off Scatchard’s arm into the net. Scatchard’s ninth goal of the season was assisted by Olvecky and former Lake Erie forward Chris Mueller.

 

The Monsters took the lead at 15:50 of the second period. T.J. Hensick won a faceoff in the right circle to Wes O’Neill at the right point. O’Neill passed to the left point for a one-timer from Tom Preissing that beat Dekanich.
