Dekanich Helps Admirals Sink Rivermen
Feb 28, 2010
Milwaukee goalie Mark Dekanich stopped 34 shots to earn his third shutout of the season and lead the Milwaukee Admirals past the Peoria Rivermen at Carver Arena Sunday, 4-0.
Dekanich was very busy, facing 14 shots in the first period, then ten in each of the last two periods. He earned his 20th win of the season.
After a rough first period in which Peoria outshot Milwaukee 14-3, it was the Admirals striking first in the second. Hugh Jessiman carried the puck to the right circle in the Rivermen zone and fired a shot that was stopped by goalie Ben Bishop. He kicked the rebound, though, to defenseman Reid Cashman who was crashing to the net. Cashman’s putback was his fourth goal of the season and gave the Admirals the 1-0 advantage at 2:46 of the second period. Peter Olvecky also recorded an assist.
Mark Santorelli’s 11th goal of the season with 2:13 left in the second gave Milwaukee a 2-0 lead. Triston Grant’s short from the left point was deflected to Santorelli in the left circle. He fired a quick shot over Bishop’s glove. Grant and Teemu Laakso garnered the assists.
Milwaukee struck on the power play at 9:22 of the third when Nick Spaling scored his fourth goal of the year. Mike Santorelli passed the puck from the left wall to the slot. Colin Wilson tipped the puck to the left post for Spaling to backhand it into the net. All of Spaling’s goals this season have been on the power play.
Ryan Maki scored his fourth goal of the season with 6:59 to play to give the final score. Wacey Rabbit fed Grant in the slot. Grant skated to the net where Bishop stopped the puck but Maki dove to knock it in.
