Dietrich Helps Admirals Ground Aeros
Mar 21, 2010
Robert Dietrich scored the game-winning goal just 44 seconds into overtime while Mark Dekanich continued his mastery over the Aeros in Milwaukee’s 2-1 OT win at Houston Sunday.
Dietrich scored the game winner with a wrist shot from the slot that clanged off both posts before crossing the line. Mike Santorelli carried the puck into the Aeros zone on the right wing and found Dietrich trailing the play.
The Admirals went 7-1 against the Aeros this regular season.
Milwaukee struck first with a Nick Spaling power play goal at 10:15 of the first period. Jon Blum fed a pass from the right circle to the middle of the blue line for Robert Dietrich. Dietrich’s shot was stopped by Houston goalie Wade Dubielewicz, but Spaling slid the rebound between his pads for his seventh goal of the season, fifth on the power play.
Houston’s Robbie Earl tied the game with a quick shot from the bottom of the left circle over the right shoulder of Dekanich with 2:49 to play in the first period.
Houston pounded 15 shots at Dekanich in the second period, helped by 61 seconds of a 5-on-3 power play, but was unable to score. Milwaukee also killed 46 seconds of 5-on-3 time in the third period.
One milestone in the game: Hugh Jessiman played his 350th professional contest.
