Chicago, IL--Chet Pickard made 34 saves on the night but came up a hard-luck loser as the Admirals managed just one goal on the evening as they dropped a 2-1 decision to the Chicago Wolves Thursday night in game nine of the Amtrak Series.
The Admirals fell to 2-7 on the season against their division rival and have one more shot at them, Friday night at the Bradley Center.
Thang’s second goal of the season at 7:32 of the first period gave Milwaukee a 1-0 lead. Mark Van Guilder battled Jason Krog on a faceoff in the left circle. The puck went through Krog’s legs where Thang, from the left boards, swooped and slapped the puck past Peter Mannino.
The Wolves tied the game with .4 seconds left in the first period. On the power play, Chicago’s Anthony Stewart won a faceoff, getting the puck to Paul Postma. Postma’s slapper from the slot clanged off the right post into the net to knot the game at one.
Chicago’s Andrew Kozek scored the lone goal of the second period with 5:41 left in the frame. Mark Santorelli’s clearing attempt was gloved by Wolves center Johnny Pohl at the Admirals blue line. He passed to Stewart whose shot was stopped but Kozek banged the rebound into the net to give the Wolves a 2-1 edge.
