Three Goal Deficit Too Much to Overcome

Oct 10, 2010

Peoria, IL–Peoria Rivermen goalie Ben Bishop stymied the Admirals time after time Sunday to lead the Rivermen to a 3-2 victory over Milwaukee.
Bishop allowed just two power play goals on 38 Admirals shots.

Peoria’s Phil McRae gave the Rivermen the lead at 13:49 of the first period. McRae received a pass in the right circle from defenseman Mark Cundari. He stickhandled to the net and put a shot through the legs of Milwaukee goalie Chet Pickard.

The Rivermen made it 2-0 just 43 seconds later when Chris Porter put a rebound of a Nathan Oystrick shot past Pickard. Oystrick made it 3-0 on the power play with a slapshot from the right circle with 3:13 left in the first period.

The Admirals outshot the Rivermen in the first period 15-11. Milwaukee’s Pickard stopped eight shots. He was replaced after the first period in goal by Mark Dekanich.

Milwaukee got on the board with a power play goal at 3:12 of the second period. Kelsey Wilson caught a pass to the right of Peoria goalie Ben Bishop and tried to flip a pass into the slot. The puck was deflected back to Wilson who buried it into the net for his first goal of the season. Mark Van Guilder and Grant Lewis recorded assists.

Milwaukee’s Andreas Thuresson scored a power play goal with 3:13 to play in the third to bring Milwaukee within one.

The Admirals outshot Peoria 38-28 in the game.
