Admirals Lose Lead, Game
Nov 3, 2010
Milwaukee, WI—The Milwaukee Admirals took a 2-0 lead over the Rockford IceHogs into the third period on Wednesday night, but surrendered a pair of goals over the final 20 minutes and eventually lost in a shoot-out to the Hogs.
Milwaukee managed three goals in the shoot-out, but the IceHogs won the game when Jeff Taffe, who scored the game-tying goal with 1:09 to play, deeked Admirals goalie Mark Dekanich for their fourth marker of the shoot-out.
The Admirals jumped out to the 2-0 lead after the first period on the strength of goals from Jamie Lundmark and Aaron Johnson. Lundmark scored on the team’s first shot on goal at 13:32 of the first. Defenseman Teemu Laakso fired a shot from the blueline that missed the Rockford net, but the puck caromed off the boards right to a crashing Lundmark who had a wide open net.
Less than two minutes later Aaron Johnson scored his first goal as an Admiral and his first AHL tally since February 22, 2006 when he played with the Syracuse Crunch. Deep in the Rockford zone, Milwaukee forward Linus Klasen chipped the puck over Andreas Thuresson who tried to jam it past Hannu Toivonen. The IceHog netminder made the stop by couldn’t cover it up and the puck squirted out to Johnson who pounced on the puck to make it 2-0.
After a scoreless second period Rockford cut the Milwaukee lead in half just over five minutes into the third on a Kyle Beach power-play tally. The score remained that way until late in the game when Toivonen was pulled in favor of an extra attacker. Igor Makarov held the puck in the corner just above the goal line and fired a pin-point pass cross ice onto the tape of Taffe, who was positioned just to Dekanich’s right.
While the Admirals did pick up a point, it marked the third time already this season that they have lost a game while leading heading into the third period.
