Dekanich Dominates as Admirals Win

Nov 10, 2010

Admirals goaltender Mark Dekanich continued his hot start in net for Milwaukee as he stopped all 35 shots he faced in regulation and overtime and then turned aside four-of-five Grand Rapids shoot-out attempts to lead the team to a 1-0 victory over the Griffins Wednesday afternoon at the Van Andel Arena.

Dekanich picked up his third straight victory and ran his record to 7-1-1 on the year. The shutout was his first of the 2010-11 campaign and lowered his goals against average to a AHL-best 1.63 to go along with a league leading .941 save percentage.

Playing a special 11:00 am CT start time so kids from Grand Rapids area schools could attend, neither squad was able to crack the opposing goalie and just four penalties were called the entire game resulting in a 0-for-2 effort for both power-play units.

In the shoot-out Admirals forward Mark Santorelli kicked things off and scored on Grand Rapids netminder Tomas McCollum inspite of losing control of the puck at the last second. After misses by the Griffins Ilari Filpulla and Tomas Tatar and Milwaukee’s Linus Klasen, Jamie Lundmark gave the Admirals 2-0 lead when he connected for the third time in as many tries this year.

Mark Van Guilder and Matt Halischuk each had opportunities to end the shoot-out but were denied by McCollum, however the Griffins Brendan Smith attempt to tie the game clanged off the post and gave the Admirals their second shoot-out win in a row.

The win also kicked off a franchise record-tying ten-game roadtrip for Milwaukee and it upped their record to 7-3-1-2 on the season.

The trip continues on Friday night at 6:30 pm against the Lake Erie Monsters in Cleveland. The Ads don’t return to the Bradley Center until Wednesday, December 1st at 7:00 pm against the Manitoba Moose.
